Keep cool with Tilcor’s Class A roofing system

Tilcor

Tilcor’s Class A cool roof system is an ideal solution for hot climates as it’s designed to keep homes cool on sweltering summer days. Its batten based system provides superb ventilation and heat dissipation by allowing for airflow under the panels.

In this article, we’re going to explore the cool roof system solution and how they meet the California Energy Commission’s Title 24 cool roof standard.

Tilcor’s Class A cool roofs not only keep temperatures down inside the house, they’re also highly durable, look amazing and have a lifetime warranty.

To keep houses cool they use Sol-R-Skin, a combination material of roof underlayment and reflective foil insulation that forms a radiant barrier. This is first installed over vertical counter battens with horizontal battens placed on top of the Sol-R-Skin. This is topped of with our premium Tilcor panels.

This system creates an air space under the roofing panels which allows the radiant heat to reflect off the Sol-R-Skin underlayment. (The heat then feeds back into the airspace to be exhausted out of the ridge). Sol-R-Skin has the highest R-Value available on the market today, meaning it has a high resistance to heat flow.

The above picture shows how the Sol-R-Skins fits underneath the horizontal battens, with our stone coated steel tiles sitting on top.

Title 24

Cool roofs have the ability to cut building owners’ energy costs because they reduce the need for air conditioning. As a result, they are a part of the requirements of the Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards, California’s energy code.

Key benefits of a cool roof include:

  • As cool roofs gain less heat than standard roofs they reduce the need for air conditioning, making buildings both cheaper to run and more comfortable.

  • Cool roofs can also reduce the urban heat island effect, an issue which makes our cities hotter and results in unhealthy air.
